This time of the year I usually write some sort of post about much we love summer, being outside, eating salads and just feeling wonderful.  But to be honest, that completely discounts the genuine fear that summer can bring.

Oh no, I have to wear swimwear!!

The other day I was chatting to my brother, sister-in-law and two nieces on Skype (Hi Guys if you are reading this… you better be reading this!!).  I mentioned to them that I wanted to start heading to the pool for a few laps every now again (which is very different to what I usually do… usually I say I am going to go swimming every  single day at the crack of dawn and then I do it twice and give up all together.  This time is going to be different.  I’m going to swim when I felt like it.  Swimming is going to make me happy!)  And I was telling them the story because I was trying to impress them – the girls in that family are all avid & excellent swimmers.  So I told them that I was off to buy some new bathers later that day.

My sister-in-law instantly said, “I hope you are feeling strong today Em, if you are going to try on bathers”.  Breezily I answered, “Oh I am much more accepting of how I look these days… I’ll be fine!”

Hahahahahahaha famous last words!

It took me a few try-ons and I fairly quickly settled on a very funky Speedo tankini set with cute little shorts.  The problem with Speedos are they make very small sizes so I had to go up a couple and I must admit my ego was bruised.  I tried to focus on how wonderful swimming will make me feel rather than what I will look like… because let’s be honest, once I’m in the pool no one is looking! (And I messaged my sister-in-law to tell her how right she was!)

I know I am not the only one who feels this way.  And the saddest thing is when people let how they look (or how they perceive they look) get in their way of actually doing something.  Of getting into the pool.  Or going to an exercise class.  Or trying internet dating.  Or whatever it is they want to pursue in life.  This whole summer-time swimmers blues reminded me of why I started my business and what I am most passionate about – its feeling good!  Life is not all about looking good.

Feeling at your best mentally, physically and emotionally is what is most important.

So the bathers debacle has prompted me to put together a new free online workshop called “Effortless Energy, a permanent glow and a body you will love – a simple 3 step strategy to take YOU to your next level”.  I have two session times planned.
