Over the past few months I have known a lot about fear. I quit my job and the security of a regular pay-check to concentrate on my business full time. I live on my own again after more than 3 years of living with family. I have started learning a new language. And I have to put myself “out there” over and over again to help attract clients to my business. It’s bloody scary!

Plus, this year has been quite horrendous when it comes to terror attacks, politicians spewing hate and some of our favourite celebrities dying way before their time.

There is a famous self-help book called “Feel the Fear And Do It Anyway” but I worry that sometimes acting on the feeling of fear can inspire behaviours that aren’t as beneficial as they could be. For example, if someone fears being fat (and really what they probably fear is either dying early or never feeling accepted), they are likely to take an action of deprivation. “I will only eat 1200 calories per day and I will exercise for an hour each day” Now, unless this is easy for you, it is not how I would recommend anyone lives their life. Plus it is likely to end in failure, just increasing the initial fear.

Imagine instead that you could release the fear (and do it anyway). Imagine how much lighter you could feel if you let go of the fear and lived life exactly how you wanted to. This is a concept I have been exploring lately I thought I should share with you some of the techniques that have worked for me.

Reiki is a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being.

I have been receiving distance Reiki since the beginning of the year and in June I did the Reiki 1 course. Since then I have been practicing Reiki on others and myself. I can’t explain it exactly, but it is like my world has opened up. I am less fearful and it feels like all these wonderful clients and experiences are coming to me effortlessly.

Essential Oils

I have also been experimenting with DoTerra essential oils lately. Diffusing, inhaling, applying and sometimes ingesting essential oils is a beautiful way of supporting and uplifting yourself. They won’t solve all of life’s problems but essential oils will make you feel great while you are working them out!

My favourite blend at the moment is peppermint, lemongrass and lavender. It keeps me calm and uplifted.

Kerry Rowett

Kerry is a Kinesiologist based in Adelaide. I started working with her group program for business women (it’s called Align & Attract) in January this year. This program helps me to set goals and clear any blocks and fears. It has been an ongoing process for me and will continue to be throughout my life. You can check out Kerry’s webinar all about releasing fear here.

A few final thoughts…

Working on fear is very much like peeling an onion. There is layer after layer after layer. And although I have worked through and released a lot of fears about my business I still have lots of work to do!

My next big fear is the classic one of rejection. After being single for many, many years, I am ready to get onto some online dating sites and see what happens.

Wish me luck!
