Whenever I read about healthy chocolate recipes I always come across chocolate mousse made with avocado. I love avo and I love chocolate but the two together just didn’t seem right. I kept avoiding making the mousse. I just didn’t feel ready.

Then life, as it does, made the decision for me. I am house sitting and the owners left behind a bag of left over, very ripe, avocados. So, I decided that was the sign I needed to avo go (see what is did there?! – sorry…). And guess what. It was delicious! I could barely taste the avocado and it was so creamy. I highly recommend you give it a go too. Avocados are full of health benefits such as fibre, vitamins and Omega 3 fatty acids so why wouldn’t you?

This recipe is adapted from Sarah Wilson’s I Quit Sugar Chocolate Cookbook.

Avocado Chocolate Mousse

2 ripe avocado
125 coconut cream, chilled so its firm
1/3 cup of good quality cocoa powder
1 tablespoon of chia seeds
2 tablespoons of maple syrup
1/3 teaspoon of vanilla bean paste
1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
Pinch of sea salt

Put all ingredients in a food processor or blender and blend till smooth. Scoop into 4 small dishes and chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours. I served mine with Greek yoghurt and homemade granola.
