Have I got your attention?  Great!  Now get your mind out of the gutter.  This post is about food.  And nothing else!  It’s just that I currently have a small obsession with food that is ball shaped.  So I thought I might try and share the news and perhaps create a national ball craze.  It’s good to have goals, right?

So my first published foray into balls was last week when I shared my F-ing Awesome Pho recipe.   But that was not my first ball adventure.  No, this started a while ago when I became obsessed with Bliss Balls.  As I delved into my new world of holistic health and wholefoods it felt like I wasn’t part of the gang until I mastered bliss balls.  They are little balls of bliss – quite literally.  They are full of lovely whole foods like linseed (omega-3), cinnamon (blood sugar stabalising), cacoa powder & goji berries (antioxidant superfoods), and chia seeds (protein).  Plus the good ones are sugar free.  And they taste like chocolate!!  They are gorgeous and the recipe I loved the most was from Jessica Sepel which you can find here.  They are the perfect way to get a little nutritional high!

And as we all know the best things in life come in threes.  So to round out my ball crush I now present to you Tuna Meatballs with pasta.  We all know we should eat more fish so here is a recipe that will probably delight the whole family!

Tuna Meatballs with Pasta

For the sauce:

1 small onion, chopped

olive oil

2 cloves of garlic, minced

2 x 400g tinned tomatoes

1 tsp oregano

freshly ground salt & pepperF

Fry the onion & garlic in the olive oil until soft.  Add the tomatoes and season.  Simmer for 15 minutes until it thickens

For the balls:

400g tuna minced (I used canned but fresh would be lovely)

50g pine nuts, lightly toasted

1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon

freshly ground salt & pepper

1 tsp oregano

Handful of chopped parsley

75g fresh breadcrumbs

2 eggs lightly beaten

juice of one lime (or lemon)

fresh rocket

MIx together the tuna, pine nuts, cinnamon, seasoning, oregano, parsley and breadcrumbs in a bowl.  Add the eggs and lime juice and combiine well with your hands.  Roll the mixture into small balls.  Heat some oil in a frying pan and saute in batches until they are golden brown.

Cook chosen pasta as per the packet instructions.  Then combine the sauce, pasta and meatballs.  Serve topped with fresh rocket.
