Last Friday I received “The Beast” in the mail. A huge powerful blender. And it has revolutionised how I do breakfast. I must admit that I have been influenced by both the media and my studies to take on the whole green smoothie thing. In fact, my Sydney naturopath told me a year ago that I should get into green smoothies as a great way to up my fibre and calcium intake (green leafy veges have heaps of calcium – go figure!). Twelve months ago I was NOT READY for green smoothies. Now, quite simply, I love them!  Look how things change huh?

This morning I took my first exam for my nutrition course. It’s hot here in Albany (29 degrees by 9am is very hot for us!). I wanted to get straight into my studies when I woke up so green smoothie to the rescue. It was truly refreshing and I got 97% in my exam! Coincidence? I think not!

Emma’s Exam Elixir

2 Kale leaves

Juice of one lemon

large slice of fresh pineapple, chopped

half a pear, chopped

half a cucumber, chopped

a stick of celery, chopped

1 teaspoon of spirulina

5 almonds

1 tablespoon of linseed meal

400ml water


chia seeds

Put everything except the chia seeds into the blender.  Blend for 90 seconds.  Pour into a glass and top with chia seeds.
